Education

I obtained my MBBS degree in 2002 from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Barisal. Following this, I pursued postgraduate training in psychiatry and was awarded the MCPS (Psychiatry) in 2010 by the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), Dhaka. To further advance my expertise, I achieved the FCPS (Psychiatry) in 2011 from the same institution, which represents the highest level of specialist qualification in the field of psychiatry in Bangladesh.

Academic Role

I am currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College & Hospital, Barisal. From July 2024 to February 2025, I also held the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Geriatric and Organic Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Dhaka. Previously, I worked as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at NIMH, Dhaka (2017–2024), where I contributed extensively to clinical teaching, research, and postgraduate training. Earlier in my career, I served as a Resident Psychiatrist at NIMH (2009–2017), gaining wide-ranging experience in patient care, psychiatric residency supervision, and specialized psychiatric services.

Administrative Roles

Alongside academic responsibilities, I was appointed as Deputy Director of NIMH, Dhaka (2017–2024), where I was actively engaged in institutional management, policy implementation, and program development for mental health services.

Academic Coordinator

I have been actively involved in shaping postgraduate psychiatric education at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). From 2018 to 2022, I served as the Course Coordinator for the MD Psychiatry Residency Program, where I oversaw curriculum design, resident supervision, and academic quality enhancement. Following this, from 2022 to 2024, I took on the role of Training Coordinator for the FCPS Psychiatry Program, managing specialist training, assessment, and program development to ensure excellence in postgraduate psychiatric education.

Professional Memberships & Leadership

I am an International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and a Fellow of the World Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (WAPR). I have also been recognized as a Fellow of the World Health Organization (WHO) for my contributions to global mental health initiatives.

Editorial & Academic Contributions

I served as an Editorial Board Member of the Asian Journal of Psychiatry (2021–2023) and as Executive Editor of the Archives of NIMH, the official journal of the National Institute of Mental Health, Dhaka (2018–2023). Through these roles, I contributed to advancing psychiatric research, peer review, and scholarly publishing in the region.

Leadership & Organizational Roles

In leadership, I am currently the Secretary General of the SAARC Psychiatric Federation (2023–2025) and the Joint Secretary of the Faculty of Psychiatry, Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), Dhaka (2021–present). I also served as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP) from 2018 to 2024, actively working to promote psychiatric education, policy, and collaboration at the national level.
